Installation and Removal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Installation for NetWare: Portlock License Manager is the officially supported procedure to install Portlock Storage Manager and Portlock Storage Manager licenses to NetWare servers. Additional manual methods are available for disaster recovery situations as as described below. System Requirements: Windows XP SP2 or later version of Windows. Novell Client for Windows. Portlock License Manager Version 5.13.0.2115 or later Quick Start 1. Download and Install Portlock License Manager from our web site. http://www.portlock.com/products/license_manager/ 2. Download Portlock Storage Manager Click the PSM icon in the Portlock License Manager Toolbar. This method will download and import Portlock Storage Manager. 3. Import the desired Portlock Storage Manager License Click the Import icon in the Portlock License Manager Toolbar. This method is used to import manually downloaded versions. 4. Map a drive letter to the SYS volume (optional) Use Novell's Map Network Drive utility (located in the Windows taskbar) 5. Install Portlock Storage Manager to the NetWare Server. Right-click on the desired NetWare server or select Install Portlock Storage Manager from the PSM menu. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Additional Install Methods: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This software is packaged as a zip file. Create a temporary directory on your system and unzip the files. This software does not require an installation before use. However, there are several possible installation methods: 1) Installation using INSTALL.NLM (NW 3 & 4) or NWCONFIG.NLM (NW 5 & 6). Copy the files either to a floppy diskette or to a temporary directory on your server. Using INSTALL.NLM or NWCONFIG.NLM select "Product Options". Then select "Install a product not listed". Specify the directory that has STORMGR.IPS. For example you created a temporary directory called SYS:/TEMP In NWCONFIG specify the directory SYS:/TEMP 2) Create the directory SYS:/STORMGR. Copy the files to the SYS:/STORMGR directory on your server. The software can also be copied to any directory on your server. 3) Installation using PINSTALL.NLM. From the server console type: "load a:pinstall.nlm" if the files are on a floppy diskette, or "load /pinstall.nlm" if the files are on a directory on the server. The default installation directory is SYS:/STORMGR. To execute the software type: "load sys:/stormgr/stormgr" at the server console. See the command line options section below. To remove the software, use INSTALL.NLM (NW 4) or NWCONFIG.NLM (NW 5 * 6). Select "Product Options". Then select "View/Configure/Remove installed products". Then select STORMGR and press delete. To uninstall for NetWare 3, you will need to manually delete the directory and its contents SYS:/STORMGR. ============================================================================== 4. Known Issues Refer to history.txt for specific details. This version does have the following limitations (by design): - Volumes with FTAM Name Space are not supported. - Volumes with Data Migration enabled are not supported. - The software supports a maximum of 128 logical disk drives per server. Note that a RAID-5 array appears as one logical disk drive to NetWare. - The software supports a maximum of 256 NetWare partitions per server. ============================================================================== 5. Command Line Options This version supports a number of command line options that can be used to modify the behavior of the software. Command Syntax: stormgr [options] The following are valid command line options: -help Display the help screen. All other options will be ignored. -cmd=filename This options specifies a file to be processed for commands. This option turns on Storage Manager Scripting. This option is not currently available. This is a special command for Novell's NetWare 6 Evaluation CD. -compression Enables Image Compression. Default level = 5. -compression=[1-10] Enables Image Compression specifying the level. -dvd Enable support for CD/DVD writers (default). -nodvd Disable support for CD/DVD writers. -ignore=[1-128] Ignore the specified disk drive. This is commonly used on Fibre Channel SANs that have multiple paths to the same device. Using this switch causes Storage Manager to ignore the disk drive. -logfile=filename This option creates a file on either a NetWare volume or a file located on the DOS partition to store status and error information from Storage Manager. The command line option -logfile supports two replacement variables. %VARDATE% This variable will be replaced with the current date in the format YYYYMMDD. %VARTIME% This variable will be replaced with the current time in the format HHMMSS. Example: -logfile=sys:/logs/stormgr_%VARDATE%_%VARTIME%.log This becomes -logfile=sys:/logs/stormgr_20110922_123000.log for the current date Sep-22-2011 at 12:30:00. -luns DOS only. By default, Portlock Storage Manager will scan LUN 0 - 7 on each target ID. This flag will cause Storage Manager to scan for luns 0 thru 7. -memtest (DOS only) This option will cause Storage Manager to report how much memory could be allocated when running under DOS. By adding or removing himem.sys the best memory allocation strategy can be found. -nodefrag After a resize is complete, do not defragment the directory tables. Resizing a volume normally involves moving the FAT and directory tables. The directory tables are then fragmented after a resize. The software will then defragment the directory tables after a resize to improve volume performance. -noluns DOS only. By default, Portlock Storage Manager will scan LUN 0 - 7 on each target ID. This flag will cause Storage Manager to scan for lun 0 only. -nwio The software supports using either the older NetWare NWIO (DSK) I/O subsystem interface and the newer NWPA (HAM) interface. This command line option specifies to use the older NWIO (DSK) interface. Note: This option is not available on NetWare 5.x or 6.x servers. -nwpa The software supports using either the older NetWare NWIO (DSK) I/O subsystem interface and the newer NWPA (HAM) interface. This command line option specifies to use the newer NWPA (HAM) interface. Note: This option is not available on NetWare 3.x servers unless the NWPA update package has been installed. This is the only interface available for NetWare 5.x and 6.x servers. -nwmm Note: This option is for NetWare 5.x and 6.x. Added support for using the NetWare Media Manager for disk devices. This requires using the command line option -nwmm. Enabling this option turns off NWPA support for disk devices and instead uses the NetWare Media Manager for disk devices. This option solves problems with NetWare drivers that do not correctly support the passthru interface (Compaq MSA1000) or the server is using custom CDMs for fault tolerance. -os=version This option sets the version of NetWare that Storage Manager emulates when running under DOS. Valid versions are 3, 4, 5, 6 and 65. To have Storage Manager display a prompt for the version use "-os=x" -port= This option changes the TCP/IP Port number used for TCP/IP communications. By default, Storage Manager uses port 19000. Both the sending and receiving processes must use the same port number. -verbose This option increases the amount of information placed into the logfile. For some types of operations, the information will be extensive creating logfiles of hundreds of megabytes. This option is sometimes needed for technical support. Do not enable this option unless requested by technical support. -smtp=mail_server_name This option specifies the name of the SMTP server to use for the license renewal or purchase command. This name can be a system name (mail.portlock.com) or an IP address. -smtp_user=user_name This option is used when an email server requires user authentication. The user_name must be a valid user name that the SMTP server supports. If this option is used, then the -smtp and -smtp_pass options must also be used. -smtp_pass=password This option is used when an email server requires user authentication. The pasword must be a valid password that the SMTP server supports. If this option is used, then the -smtp and -smtp_user options must also be used. -floppy This option enables seaching the floppy drives A: and B: for the stormgr.lic file. This is disabled by default due to DOS and NetWare displaying the prompt "Insert diskette for drive A:" if a floppy drive is not installed. **************************************** Scripting Features: **************************************** We have added several command line options to automate scripting. 1) You want to image your workstation or server to an FTP server. stormgr -script -os=6 -imageall -imageftp=192.168.1.10,anonymous,user@test.com,imgfile.img 2) You have mapped a drive letter from DOS using either the Novell Client or the Microsoft Client. You want to image your workstation or server to this mapped drive letter. stormgr -script -os=6 -imageall -imagefile=g:imgfile.img -purge 3) You want to image your NetWare 6.5 server using Online Imaging to an FTP server. The temporary snapshot data will use the pool TEST_POOL. stormgr -script -online -snapshot=test_pool -imageall -imageftp=192.168.1.10,anonymous,user@test.com,imgfile.img 4) You want to image your NetWare server to the first tape drive using Variable length blocks (volumes will be dismounted). stormgr -script -imageall -imagetape=0 -variable 5) You want to image your NetWare 6.5 server to the first tape drive using Variable length blocks (volumes will be imaged online). stormgr -script -online -snapshot=test_pool -imageall -imagetape=0 -variable Details: -script Turn on scripting. -os=6 Set the version for NetWare emulation (3, 4, 5, 6 or 65) For Windows workstations set to 6 -compression Enables Image Compression. Default level = 5. -compression=N Enables Image Compression. N = 1 - 10. -imageall Image all disk drives and all partitions / volumes -imageftp=ip_address,ftp_user,ftp_password,filename -imagefile=filename -imagetape=device where device numbers start with 0 -tape_fixed Use Fixed length records when writing to tapes. -tape_variable Use Variable length records when writing to tapes. -purge Purge a volume before imaging it. For NSS volumes, the volume must be mounted. If an NSS volume is not mounted then the volume will not be purged. Traditional volumes can be purged mounted or not mounted (scripting only). -purge will be ignored with -online. -nopurge Do not purge a volume before imaging (scripting only). -online Use Online Imaging for NSS Pools (NetWare 6.5 SP3 & above). The default is to use Offline Imaging. You must also specify the command line option -snapshot=pool_name. -snapshot=pool_name This specifies the name of the pool to be used to store temporary snapshot data. This pool will not be imaged during an online image. The default name is "SNAPSHOT". -image_pool=pool_name image only the pool named pool_name. Note: -image_pool can be used up to sixteen times. -skip_pool=pool_name Do not image the pool named pool_name or any of its volumes. Note: -skip_pool can be used up to sixteen times. -iscsi Add iSCSI Partitions as Virtual Disks. The partitions in iSCSI Partitions can then be managed just like any other disk drive. -noiscsi Ignore iSCSI Partitions. -NoCheckPartitionIDs Disable checking for Duplicate Partiition IDs. ============================================================================== 6. Software Updates Portlock Storage Manager supports updating itself over the Internet. The update feature will connect to our web server and retrieve a file that lists the latest files. We use the HTTP "GET" command for all software downloads. An error message will sometimes occur about not being able to resolve the address www.portlock.com. This is fixed by loading the Novell NLM netdb.nlm which provides the DNS name resolution that Storage Manager needs. As a fallback we have hard coded the IP address of our web server into Storage Manager. ============================================================================== 7. Reporting problems to us. Portlock Software is very interested in any comments regarding Storage Manager. Many features in the current product are the result of customers letting us know what they need. When reporting a problem to us, use the command line option -logfile to help us identify the problem. stormgr -logfile=filename Also, make sure that you are using the latest version of Storage Manager. We will ask you to upgrade to the latest version before providing support. Check the history.txt file to see if your issue has already been addressed. ============================================================================== 8. Additional Information and Support.
